WAYZATA, Minn. – On Tuesday, September 26, 2023, Savannah Nelson was crowned the Women’s Match Play Champion. The beginning matches from the spring and final matches were held at Woodhill Country Club thanks to Paul Kelley, PGA for hosting.
At the conclusion of Nelson’s win, she mentioned, “I have never played Woodhill Country Club before today and haven’t really had much match play experience this season.”
Nelson played her semi final match in the morning and knocked off Catherine Pederson after being 1 down through the first 9 holes. She got a handle on the back 9 and ended the match 4&3 against Pederson.
In the final match, Nelson was going against Haley Tollette, who beat Angie Ause in the semi final match. Nelson started the match going 1 up after the first hole which brought good momentum for her round. After 9 holes, Nelson went 4 up on Tollette and proceeded to win holes 10 and 11 to close out her match 6&5.
At the conclusion of Nelson’s round she said, “My game has been feeling good the last month.”
This marked her 3rd consecutive win in the Minnesota PGA Women’s Match Play. “Historically this has been one of my favorite events,” Nelson said following her win on Tuesday. “This is my last big tournament of the year so it was a fun way to end.”
