WAYZATA, Minn. – Don Berry closed out his final match 5&4 to win the 2023 Minnesota PGA Match Play.

The Minnesota PGA Match Play opening matches kicked off at Woodhill Country Club and the finals also finished there on Tuesday, September 26, 2023. Thank you to Paul Kelley, PGA for hosting the event.

This is an event in which Berry has had a successful track record. He has multiple wins and a few runner-up finishes. Berry’s last win in this event was in 2021 after beating Thomas Campbell in the final match.

In the morning, Berry played in a semi final match against Tommy Koehler. “Tommy and I both hit it decently but neither of us putted very well,” said Berry. “I was ahead most of the day, but he did make a little comeback.” Berry and Koehler’s match made it all the way to hole 18, before Berry won.

Berry then played against Johnny Schwaller in the final match Tuesday afternoon. Berry had good headway in his match after going up early over Schwaller. He started off the match by winning hole 1 and hole 2 to place him at 2 up.

Going into the back 9, Berry controlled the match at 4 up. “I was making all my 3-5 footers in this match.” Berry mentioned. He continued to make putts to close out the match 5&4 on hole 12.

“I played pretty good,” Berry stated. “Better than I did this morning and was under-par in this match.”

Berry’s play this season and his solid afternoon round earned him the victory in the 2023 Minnesota PGA Match Play.
